Marie Paul Hall
(mom of 6)

Marie Paul Hall is the visionary force behind Mindful Journey Academy, a captivating blend of Waldorf-inspired education and immersive nature experiences. For years, she harbored the dream of establishing a permanent haven for homeschoolers seeking an alternative, holistic approach to learning at her school.

Marie's journey into Waldorf education began a decade ago, sparked by her own homeschooling endeavors and a relentless quest for educational excellence. As a stalwart educator, she has fostered learning communities across Horry County, SC, leading Waldorf homeschool cooperatives and nurturing young minds in unconventional settings.

She has had a mentor since the beginning, Melisa Nielsen with Waldorf Essentials and Jean Miller from Taproot, a retreat style Waldorf inspired teacher training. Marie's expertise is seasoned with hands-on experience and a penchant for continual growth. Her learning journey spans seminars, yet she thrives most amidst the dynamic interplay of real-world experiences. At Mindful Journey Academy, Marie's dream finds tangible form. Here, children are not just taught but nurtured, encouraged to learn through the rhythm of nature, artistic expression, and practical skills like gardening, farming and cooking.

Central to Marie's philosophy is fostering community, adaptability, sustainability, and a profound connection with nature.

As the Director of Mindful Journey Academy, Marie not only guides its educational ethos but also delights in hands-on pursuits, from caring for farm animals to spearheading building projects and tending to the lush gardens. She also dreams of weekend adventures sailing as she is working towards her certifications.  With her at the helm, Mindful Journey Academy is not just a school; it's a sanctuary for holistic growth and boundless exploration.

Testimonials

It is the best place in the area. As a psychologist specializing in professional education for fellow psychologists, I've seen firsthand how certain educational environments can inadvertently stifle children's natural personalities and talents. My aim is to ensure that children have access to learning environments that support their individuality and nurture their unique talents, allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential. My priority for my son is his growth into an independent, grounded, and well-rounded individual—physically and psychologically healthy, capable of self-expression, seeking and receiving help when needed, and understanding and following common-sense rules. I want him to flourish without being confined by boxes. After his experience last year, he fell in love with the summer camp and has continued attending the school ever since. I've noticed his social-emotional skills blossoming alongside his growing self-confidence each day. With a focus on nature and play, this summer camp provides the ideal environment for nurturing children's development.

I initially expected a typical summer camp experience focused on outdoor activities and nature, but I was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of activities offered. Not only did my boys get to enjoy the outdoors, but they also learned practical skills like building gutters and caring for farm animals. Marie and her staff went above and beyond to ensure all the children felt cared for and loved.

As a parent who values outdoor adventures and safety, I was thrilled with the camp's emphasis on outdoor exploration in a secure environment. Most importantly, my boys had a blast, made new friends, and stayed active. They not only developed outdoor skills but also improved socially and emotionally through interactions with children of all ages.

I wholeheartedly recommend this summer camp to other parents looking for enriching outdoor experiences for their children. Our kids need more opportunities to learn in nature and engage in hands-on experiences. The love and care shown to all the children make this camp stand out as the best in my book!

Last summer was our first time attending MJA summer camp. My two girls,  8 and 13  loved it. My 8 yo had a blast outside all day, playing in nature and learning new things and making new friends. My 13yo helped as a Jr counselor and enjoyed being outside and connecting and exploring with the younger kids. There was a great balance of planned activities and free play. We are so blessed to have a place like this here for our kids. Excited for this summer.

Sending your child to Mindful Journey Academy Summer Camp was one of the best decisions we made for our daughter last year. From the moment she stepped onto the grounds, she was captivated by the immersive experience in nature and the enriching activities provided.

The staff's passion for outdoor education was evident in every activity, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity in the campers.

Each day brought a new adventure, keeping the excitement levels high and ensuring that our daughter looked forward to going to camp every morning. The variety of activities, combined with the supportive and caring staff, created a nurturing environment where our daughter felt safe to explore and grow.

Marie's exceptional leadership was evident in every aspect of the camp, from the organization of activities to the attention given to each camper's individual needs. Her dedication to providing a memorable and educational experience truly sets Mindful Journey Academy Summer Camp apart.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with our daughter's experience at Mindful Journey Academy Summer Camp. It not only provided her with valuable knowledge about the natural world but also instilled in her a deeper appreciation for the environment and a sense of connection with her surroundings.  Something most kids just don’t get during the school year sitting in a classroom.
